Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is More Than a Tradition
A slew of performers, including David Archuleta, Miley Cyrus, Miranda Cosgrove and The Clique Girlz are slated to perform at this year’s 82nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Although the parade has become an iconic American tradition, actors & musicians often participate because they have something to promote. David Archuleta is performing on the heels of the his November 11th debut album release. Miley Cyrus is promoting her latest film, Bolt, which stormed box offices last weekend. Teen star Miranda Cosgrove, of both Drake & Josh and iCarly fame, will be appearing in the Disney Original movie Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh, airing December 5th. For the parade, she will be singing a song from her debut album released earlier this year. The Clique Girlz released their album Incredible last month and are on tour through December with The Cheetah Girls (who they actually replaced in the Macy’s Parade line-up after certain pictures of Cheetah’s member Adrienne Bailon surfaced in the media). And the floats that they will be performing on - the perfect co-branding opportunity for the millions of eyes tuning into the broadcast.

The parade is not only a place where top musicians can promote their new projects, but also a forum to promote upcoming films and entertainment properties. New baloons include Horton the Elephant (Horton Hears a Who is out on DVD and Blu-Ray December 5th), Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story 3 premieres in 2010) and Smurf (The Smurfs live-action animated movie is bowing in late 2010). Broadway musicals are always a part of the parade line-up and include White Christmas, In The Heights (this year’s Tony Award winner for Best Musical), South Pacific and The Little Mermaid.
Be sure to check your local listings and catch CBS’ live broadcast of the parade, beginning at 9 a.m. ET. The Early Show’s Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price will be providing commentary, along with the help of Patrick Warburton (who stars in CBS’ mid-season sitcom Rules of Engagement). Singer Clay Aiken, and CBS daytime drama stars Jessica Leccia and Julie Pinson will also be dropping by the commentator booth.
