Slashing Ticket Prices & Endorsements

Wow. I read a shocking note from Darren Rovell’s Sports Business column on CNBC’s website this morning. He said that Stubhub is reporting that the average ticket price on its Web site for last night’s College Football National Championship was less than $700. In comparison, the prices for the previous two bowl games were each more than $1,300.

What does that mean when you hire an athlete for a program?

Agents used to sweeten deals for companies by offering them “hard to get” tickets. With the economy the way it is, the value of those tickets are down (including next month’s Super Bowl).

So don’t be fooled. Do your deal with your talent based on their value and buy additional tickets for hospitality later if you even need them.
