Brazilian Celebs Will Shine During The 2016 Olympic Games

It’s official… Brazil has won the 2016 Olympics with the host city being Rio de Janeiro. Here are a few famous Brazilians with global appeal that have a lot to gain during the Games.

Pelé: This is a great opportunity for the legendary Brazilian soccer player to truly leverage his global stardom in his home country. He has had successful relationships with MasterCard and Puma. Most recently, he appears in Ubisoft’s arcade football game Academy of Champions for the Wii. Though he never participated in the Olympics himself, the 2016 Games will be a prime opportunity for sponsors to leverage his global presence and amazing story.

Helio Castroneves: The Brazilian auto racing driver rose to fame after winning the Indy 500 three times (2001, 2002 and 2009). And after winning season 5 of Dancing with the Stars, Castroneves broadened his audience even more. By 2016, people will not remember his recent tax evasion issues (from which he was acquitted) and he’ll likely be very marketable during the Games. His current partners include HCA Healthcare, Mobil and Penske, but we’d expect him to lend his name to a couple other during the Games.

Gustavo Kuerten: The retired former No. 1 tennis player recently retired from top-level tennis in 2008. During his heyday, he enjoyed endorsements with Diadora, Bank of Brazil and Motorola. As one of Brazil’s (and South America) most popular athletes, I’m sure that he’ll participate in the festivities in 2016.

César Cielo: This Brazilian swimmer came to fame in the 2008 Olympics when he won the gold medal in the 50m freestyle and the bronze in the 100m freestyle. He has continued to perform well (winning both events in the 2009 World Championships in Rome) wearing Arena brand swimsuits and will continue to grow his personal brand in the future.

Gisele Bündchen: The Brazilian supermodel has continued to grow in popularity throughout the years. She has been featured in numerous ad campaigns including Victoria’s Secret, Apple, Nivea, Ebel and Max Factor. Husband and New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will likely be weaved into her storyline during the Games.

Ronaldinho and Kaka: As we previously mentioned, both of these soccer superstars are sure to get plenty of media coverage during the 2016 Games. They have already captured the hearts of their country and will be pushed even further into the global spotlight during the Olympics media blitz.
